Goed nieuws! Naast de jaarlijkse ECOPOLIS* events in Brussel en Kortrijk, slaat op zaterdag 9 maart ECOPOLIS haar vleugels neer in Gent op uitnodiging van Kunstencentrum 404. Die dag zal de Gentse Vooruit gevuld zijn met talks, documentaires, performances, ... over de toekomst van landbouw en voedsel. De focus ligt op agro-ecologie als visie voor de toekomst én concrete en groeiende praktijk.

Very proud to announce that Roman Krznaric will be at Bozar as part of the Ecopolis festival to present his new book, History for Tomorrow, Inspiration from the Past for the Future of Humanity. Interviewed by Tine Hens, he will explore with the audience historical pathways toward a more sustainable and equitable future, tackling urgent issues ranging from the climate crisis to the risks of artificial intelligence.

Roman Krznaric is one of Britain's leading social philosophers. He is known for his work on empathy, social change, and the art of living. Hisbook, The Good Ancestor: How to Think Long Term in a Short-Term World, became an instant international best-seller. Krznaric advocates for the power of ideas to bring about change. He has become an influential voice on climate justice through his exploration of intergenerational rights and empathy, which he presents as a trainable skill capable of creating a more compassionate and just world

It is with gratitude that I look back at the 10th edition of ECOPOLIS that took place on November 9th in Brussel, The theme was Hope Needs Action!, and we started with a keynote by Mikaela Loach, the Jamaican-British author who wrote the wonderful book It’s Not That Radical,

But we also had from France the great Isabelle Fremeaux who spoke about artivism. Ant he people curious about how we can strengthen our democracy, came to listen to the British author Erica Benner, but also to Sophie How, who explained how Wales, for instance, decided to completely redirect the budget provided for car infrastructure towards sustainable mobility. And this is not where ECOPOLIS’ rich programme stopped. We also talked about food and energy. Because in her book Mangez les riches (Eat the Rich), French journalist Nora Bouazzouni shows how (healthy) food is also a class struggle. And the historian Jean-Baptiste Fressoz provoked the energy debate with his argument that renewable energy will not stop climate disruption, for that you have to change the whole economy.
